Freedom Concert @ Trinity Church
Nov 5 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

FreedomTheFreedom Concert is modeled after the many concerts presented by the late Mrs. Coretta Scott King throughout her leadership in the civil rights movement. On January 18th 2015, professional musicians from leading institutions in the New York music community assembled at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine for the first Freedom Concert. The concert was delivered in response to the stunning non-indictments in the cases surrounding Michael Brown and Eric Garner. The cast African American men presented a wide range of classical and contemporary compositions for voice and instruments. In addition to musical offerings, performers offered personal experiences, poetry and prose appropriate for the event. Musicians from the Freedom Concert roster have performed at “Broadway Stands of for Freedom” and New York University’s Skirball Center, and been guests on the Melissa Harris Perry Show.
