The West Village Chorale Summer Sings, begun in 1972, provide a musical treat for New Yorkers. Under the batons of leading local choral-group conductors, with music scores provided, choral music enthusiasts can participate in the singing of great choral masterpieces in the historic—and air-conditioned—Judson Memorial Church. These Sings have been noted for their friendly, informal atmosphere and high quality of musical performance. Our rehearsal format gives participants, amateur and experienced singer alike, a closer look at these monumental choral works. Solos are sometimes sung by guest artists, audience members or entire sections. Participants have an opportunity to meet the conductor and to discuss the evening’s work at the intermission, during which light refreshments are served.
A musical journey will be led by WVC Artistic Director Malcolm J. Merriweather and the Chorale’s former Artistic Director Michael Conley, and is being coordinated by ACFEA, the tour professionals who arranged our fantastic 2014 concert tour of Croatia.
